Hjörtur Smárason is the CEO of Visit Greenland and is leading the restart of tourism in the country. He has worked as a communication strategist on future visions, place branding, and tourism development, for cities, regions, and countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe. He has advised companies and governments on their crisis and post-crisis communications strategies following natural catastrophies, economic crises, and political turmoil.
Hjörtur was previously the Chief Communications and Missions Officer at Space Nation, a company that offers specialised astronaut training expeditions and leadership training for the 21st century, focusing on adaptation, crisis management and the skills needed to face the rapidly changing world of tomorrow. He is a keynote speaker, media commentator, and book editor with degrees in anthropology from the University of Iceland, political science from Lund University in Sweden, and business and economic development from Copenhagen Business School in Denmark.
